urban night motifs: stand der dinge (4. teil)

Posted by heimstatt to work in progress

hi, lads and gents.

it’s not a whole week yet until our gig at the maschinenfest.
it’s really getting exciting now – the actual plan is that a first couple of items of the new album shall be ready until next weekend. the masting put some more bass and darkness to the whole album what is exactly complies with our intentions.

today we’ve got the first half minute of the song “metro dwellers” fo you. what’s coming next after the first 30 seconds – you may check it out completely on the cd. :)

urban night motifs: stand der dinge (3. teil)

…[headphones detached]…[controls down]…[power off].

done! what’s next? burn it on CD-R, send it in for some fine tuning & mastering.
well, there hadn’t been that much to do in the last weeks, but a lot of little fragmented works, details and stuff no one else will notice in the final product… :) changing values of some single effects live, adjusting volumes, highs and lows… stuff like this…
we are very proud of and happy with the final results. let’s see what the mastering will even do more.

we gave you some information about the big theme of this album. just like our two albums on hands before this one is a conceptional thought thing again:
the single tracks are correlating and shall tell about different episodes who could reflect a night in an imaginary modern metropolis. each song builds up on a central idea which is meant to see that night from a different angle.
during the process of mixing the songs and filling them with samples and instruments we tried to project our own feelings and mental cinema in some sentences or keywords.

the song snippet we want to present you today is probably a very uncommon song when you hear it the first time, but we think it reflects and transports the diversity of the whole album very good. well, sampled brass instruments aren’t our normal kind of work – but well oiled crescent differs from the other tracks concerning the contents, too.
it’s not about the ugly face of urbanisation, it’s telling about the long and hard way home after hours of any kinds of alcohol.

just to come back to the song keywords we mentioned in the beginning, here’s what our mental cinema shows:
warm summer night – around four in the morning – just before sunrise – drunk and tired, but happy – unstable crescent – staggering – still in the bar in thoughts…

urban night motifs: stand der dinge (2. teil)

Posted by yipotash to work in progress

six weeks are gone since our last news update about the new album. naturally we continued working hard on the tracks and making the whole concept “round”.
but we think we are on the final lane – that’s why here’s some news and the next song snippet fo you:

there are 16 songs we actually selected for the album. they all are nearly ready, will be mixed in the next days and connected to each other. like on “storegga effect” and “perpetual beta” there will be a couple of songs who are not separated by a break because they are interacting and building up on each other musically and thematically.

apropos theme: “urban night motifs” deals with the mostly dark, dirty and gritty sides of modern, “civilized” city life. catchwords like violence, poorness, crime, slum, social isolation, drugs, prostitution and homelessness meet the basic message.

the title of the day is called “breathe in, freak out”. it is the fourth in the actual tracklist and completes the first “block” of the album, which introduces the theme and highlights different scenarios. musically this first block is quite danceable.

urban night motifs: stand der dinge (1. teil)

Posted by heimstatt to work in progress

our dear friends.

today we have some tangible stuff from the upcoming album for the first time – a small appetizing snippet of the actual opening track of “urban night motifs”:

in statu nascendi (snippet)

all in all it’s bit of a “popsong” but the album in whole won’t be “poppy” anyhow… :) but more about this in the next upcoming updates…

the track title ist coming from Latin. translated it means something like “during the state of becoming” and it’s a chemical phrase. this is a very short moment during a chemical reaction, just when a substance becomes it’s condition.
the translation note at wikipedia is quite pregnant and clear: “Just as something is about to begin.”

we think that this yet quite abstract phrase fits very well to our concept of an album handling with “big city” / “urbanisation” and any small pieces involved in it.
in a welcome continuation of the story of “perpetual beta” (where we dealed with changes the internet brings into both society & each and every) every bigger city is a small “microcosm” influencing all of us in doing and behaving.
any time and anywhere someone or something acts or reacts on someone or something – associating the cemical laboratory with all it’s test tubes and different (acting on each other) substances isn’t that far away.

more short stories and – of course – song snippets will follow…

kreative prozesse

Posted by heimstatt to work in progress

“urban night motifs”

perpetual beta playlist #6

Posted by yipotash to work in progress
