This album contains 1 new song by SD and 10 remixes of tracks from their previous "Null"-album. The concept might sound a bit cheap because where's the merit for the band when other bands are doing the main job. Well, you don't hear me complain, as "Barriere" is a great release. Most of the remixes are simply brilliant, but I'll especially pick up 2 of them. First there's the outstanding remix of "Kein – Keine Ruhe" by Telepherique delivering a minimal piece of ambient electronics built up with terrific sounds. This piece goes on for more than 10", but it's pure enjoyment! Another great and irresistible track is the "Kein – Kein Licht"-remix by Zero Degree. This is a new overwhelming piece of intelligent, ambient electronics constructed around a dark, oppressive sphere. 2 other remixes I want to mention are "Leer" by 5F-X (for the cool merge of ambient and rhythmic) and "Grau" by Facies Deformis. The main characteristic of SD is the repetitive style of the fragments (cf. "Beryllium", the only new song on this cd) and that's something you can also find back in numerous remixes. Some more essential names on "Barriere" are Heimstatt Yipotash and Mimetic. Highly recommended! (DP:8)

Talvekoidik gives a symphonic boost to Silent Reflections' neo-classical moodscapes by slathering the material with piano and brooding strings and infusing it with Scandinavian, Baltic, Arabic and African musical flavour. Unit299_09's Talvekoidik (an Estonian word that means foggy, winter-like atmosphere) material is suitably dense, epic in design but melancholy in character. The album gets off to a strong start with the alternately brooding and uplifting “Such a Perfect Day.” Though offset by churning machine beats and muffled by a heavy, almost oppressive thrum, a keening Celtic theme brings a lonely folk feel to “Rough Baltic Shore.” Shortly thereafter, Arabic percussion and melodies transport the listener to a different part of the world in “Sandstorm.” Talvekoidik could exercise a bit more control over the epic dimension, however, as it can turn into bombast if not carefully reined in. Nightmarish beat clatter and sawing strings almost push “Eismeer” over the top, for example, and “Silent Reflections” verges on overwrought. It's certainly a generous package with three steamrolling remixes by Heimstatt Yipotash (a writhing breakcore treatment of “Eismeer”), Fragment King (a hammering “Atlas” mix), and 16pad Noiseterrorist (a Moog-saturated screechfest version of “Eismeer”) helping push the release over the seventy-six minute mark.

Der Bonus läuft leider nicht durch, man muss ihn erst über das Menü direkt anwählen. Auch hier gibt es wieder einen Schwarz-Weiß-Film zu sehen, nur geht es diesmal nicht um Drogen sondern um Krieg. Gleich das Eingangsbild zeigt die Explosion einer Atombombe, es folgen städtische Ruinenlandschaften, in denen immer wieder wie Touristen wirkende Soldaten auftauchen, die die Szenerie besichtigen. Wahrscheinlich handelt es sich hierbei um Aufnahmen aus Hiroshima oder Nagasaki. Die Musik dazu ist dunkler Ambient, garniert mit einem rückwärtslaufenden, gespenstigen Loop.

Nach ihrer letzten CD "REANIMATE" lassen die beiden Berliner nun einmal andere für sich arbeiten. Herausgekommen ist ein Remix-Album zu Ehren des wohl bekanntesten MEZIRE-Songs "Suffer". Nun klebt ja an jedem Remix-Album sofort der Gestank von Langeweile (siehe IONIC VISION - "Maschinenangst") und Geldschneiderei (sie FRONT 242 - "Headhunter 2000"), doch bei der "SUFFER E.P." von MEZIRE wird, dank einer gewagten Mischung von Oldschool-EBM bis hin zu Noise/Industrial, ein größeres musikalisches Spektrum geboten. Das letztendlich immer nur ein Song allen Remixen zu Grunde liegt, merkt man nur beim Refrain.
